Underground pipelines are the backbone of every oil and gas operation, making long-term corrosion protection critical to ensuring safe and uninterrupted production. In sour service environments, exposure to hydrogen sulphide (H₂S), carbon dioxide (CO₂), soil stresses, and elevated operating temperatures significantly
increases the risk of corrosion and coating failure.
For the Hail & Ghasha Development Project, the coating system needed to deliver exceptional durability while remaining fully compatible with cathodic protection systems. In addition, every pipeline section was required to meet stringent quality standards, including 100% holiday testing,
to ensure defect-free performance before commissioning.
Our Solutions
POSCO delivered a complete multi-layer pipeline protection system engineered to provide long-term corrosion resistance in one of the region's most demanding operating environments.
Following abrasive blast cleaning to the Sa 2.5 standard, a high-build epoxy coating was applied to create the primary corrosion barrier. The pipelines were then wrapped using the Densowrap 80HT automatic wrapping system, ensuring uniform application and consistent overlap for reliable protection
in high-temperature service conditions.
To complete the system, a durable SA PVC overwrap was installed to provide additional mechanical protection and moisture resistance during installation and throughout the pipeline's operational life. Every coated section underwent 100% holiday (spark) testing to verify coating continuity and ensure compliance with ADNOC's stringent
quality requirements.
