The Challenge
Marine infrastructure is exposed to some of the harshest operating conditions, where continuous contact with seawater, tidal fluctuations,
and splash zone exposure accelerate corrosion and structural deterioration.
During an inspection of the
SHT-1 Jetty, several piles exhibited significant corrosion and wall-thickness loss, particularly within the splash zone.
The rehabilitation programme required a long-term corrosion protection solution capable of restoring structural integrity
while minimizing operational disruption and environmental impact.
The project also presented challenges including restricted access for above- and below-water works, marine growth on existing structures, and the
need for an installation method that could be executed safely without extensive surface preparation.

POSCO delivered a comprehensive marine asset rehabilitation solution by combining advanced corrosion protection systems with targeted structural strengthening.
The project included the installation of DENSO SeaShield marine wrapping systems on critical jetty piles, application of high-build epoxy coatings to exposed structural areas, and installation of structural steel sleeves to restore the load-bearing capacity of deteriorated piles.
To maximize long-term durability, HDPE protective jackets were installed to safeguard the wrapping system against impact, abrasion, UV exposure,
and marine conditions. The complete solution was installed using environmentally responsible techniques that eliminated abrasive blasting and
volatile organic compounds (VOCs), significantly reducing environmental impact while maintaining high installation quality.
